Colonel Munro asks Montcalm for a 24-hour truce to consider the situation. As Munro paces the battlements of Fort William Henry, Magua tries to shoot him. Montcalm prevents it. Alice accepts Heyward's marriage proposal. Munro tells his officers he will surrender the fort if he can get terms consistent with honor. The French general agrees to let the British troops leave with their colors and their weapons. After the English commander leaves, Magua complains about the surrender terms. Evacuation preparations are made and Cora and Alice insist on walking, leaving their horses for the wounded. In the forest nearby, Uncas reports to Hawkeye that Magua and the Hurons are preparing for battle. Source: WGBH archived promotional material.
