- Program Description
Hawkeye and the Mohicans lead the Munro party to temporary shelter, but Magua and his Hurons are hot in pursuit and the shelter may become a death-trap. Hawkeye leads the party to a hillside cave and prepares to fend off the Huron attack. The second entrance to the cave overhangs a 40-foot drop. Heyward, shaken by Magua's disloyalty, mistrusts the Mohicans. Hawkeye reassures him, he and Chingachgook have been friends since youth and he has known Uncas all his life. Cora needs no reassurnace about the young Indian. At Fort William Henry, Colonel Munro grows concerned for his daughters' safety. Lieutenant Grant volunteers to lead a small search party to look for them. Very shortly the entire search party is killed. At sunrise, the Hurons attack Hawkeye's party in the cave. The situation grows desperate. Since the Hurons will not kill the women nor David, who is wounded and cannot travel, Hawkeye and the Mohicans decide to escape through the cave's rear entrance. Heyward insists that he will stay behind. As Hawkeye and his Mohican companions make good their escape, the Huron warriors, led by Magua, enter the cave.
