- Program Description
It was the dawn of "The American Century," a time of widespread optimism, unprecedented progress and tremendous confidence. But beneath the surface, an undercurrent of anxiety and conflict was spreading. As American troops were sent overseas to fight in a guerrilla war and an increasing number of immigrants struggled to become part of American life, a public debate erupted over sex and pornography, racial tensions threatened to explode, and the dizzying pace of technological change propelled the country into an unknown future. America 1900 examines the emerging forces that would come to shape our own century. Part I: Spirit of the Age Part II: Change is in the Air Part III: A Great Civilized Power
