Program Description

"The Huron girl dies but Heyward and David manage to escape with Alice. Chingachgook and Hawkeye rescue Uncas. Uncas reveals to his father a plan to rescue Cora. He also acknowledges that there is no woman he can marry; he and his father are the last survivors of the proud race of Mohicans. Magua and several hundred warriors close in and Hawkeye decides to risk entering the Delaware Indian village unarmed as friends. Magua enters the village and Hawkeye warns Colonel Munro that whatever the outcome, Indian law will prevail. The Huron leader tells the Delaware chief that General Montcalm will be displeased by the presence of Englishmen, especially Hawkeye, in the village. To deceive the Delaware, both Heyward and Hawkeye claim to be the ""Longue Carabine,"" the Indian name for the scout. Without Hawkeye, Major Heyward reasons, the others stand little chance of surviving. A contest testing marksmanship soon proves which is the true ""Longue Carabine""; Hawkeye does not deny his identity. Just as the Delaware chief prepares to turn his captives over to Magua, Uncas claims to be a member of the Delaware nation. The chief is angered by what he views as a false claim, and the Delawares prepare to torture Uncas. But the blue turtle tattooed on his chest proves that Uncas and his father are indeed Mohicans and part of the Delaware nation. According to Indian law, Magua has no rights over any of the prisoners except one - Cora is his by right of conquest and he must be allowed to take her. Colonel Munro warns the Huron that he will not rest while his daughter is captive. Magua leaves with the girl and, in accordance with the law, the other must wait ""until the sun is above the trees."" But while they wait, they will prepare.
