Program Description

A new parish priest (Peter Guiness) in Shrewsbury incites the ill-will of his parishioners when he refuses to grant a young woman absolution because she is pregnant out of wedlock. When the woman and, later, the priest are found dead in the river, Cadfael's inquiry soon reveals a complex web of family ties, espionage and secret identities.
