Before the average American child leaves elementary school, researchers estimate that he or she will have witnessed more than 8,000 murders on television. FRONTLINE correspondent Al Austin journeys through what is known about television violence and how it affects society. The program reveals some unexpected conclusions about the impact TV has on Americans' world view. Following the documentary portion of the program, Bill Moyers will lead a 15-minute discussion with a panel of experts who have studied the effects TV has on children. The panel will discuss what parents can do about their children's relationship with television.
