Historical survey hosted by Abram Sachar, Brandeis University. Series release date: 1973
- Program Description
“After World War II there was virtual civil war in Greece which ended only when Tito broke with Soviets Union and withdrew his support of insurgent Greek Communists. The following decade of reconstruction and social reform on the Greek mainland was jeopardized by the highly emotional problem on the island of Cyprus, a British colonial possession, where a Turkish minority opposed union with Greece. The civil disorders and guerilla warfare dominated the headlines for years, until a compromise was effected: Cyprus became a republic within the British Commonwealth, and the Greeks and Turks developed a joint cabinet approach to government.”
