Program Description

“Quiltpoint” is the replication of quilt patterns in needlepoint. Erica demonstrates how to do a quiltpoint Lone Star on rug canvas, using satin stitch to imitate the quilting stitches. In this episode, Erica, clad in a kilt, also shows how to imitate a Scottish tartan in needlepoint and how to make a quiltpoint slipcover for a director’s chair (to match the one that she uses on the set of Erica). In addition, Erica discusses “knitpoint,” the imitation of knitting in needlepoint, and makes a knitpoint reminiscent of the sweaters of the Aran Islands in muted colors using raised stem stitch. Finally, Erica works on a pictorial crewelpoint of her summer home, Nantucket.

Stitches demonstrated in this episode include stem stitch, herringbone stitch, waffle stitch, and leaf stitch.
