- Series Description
FRONTLINE is investigative journalism that questions, explains and changes our world. Since 1983, FRONTLINE has served as PBS's flagship public affairs series. Hailed upon its television broadcast debut as "the last best hope for broadcast documentaries," FRONTLINE's stature is reaffirmed each week through incisive documentaries covering the scope and complexity of the human experience.
- Program Description
Last year, one of the largest child sexual abuse cases in the country concluded its first trial. After nine months of testimony, Robert Fulton Kelly, owner of the Little Rascals Day Care Center in Edenton, North Carolina, was sentenced to 12 consecutive life terms, one for each of the children he was convicted of molesting. In this program, producer Ofra Bikel returned to Edenton for the trial of Bob Kelly, the first of seven separate trials. This program, a follow-up to the 1991 FRONTLINE broadcast "Innocence Lost," is the first to document the history and outcome of a child molestation case on this scale. With unusual access to parents, residents, the defendants and five members of the jury, as well as actual courtroom testimony of the experts, the children and their parents, the program reveals the troubling ambiguities that remain unresolved and examines the challenges child sexual abuse cases present to our society and our legal system. Broadcast July 20 and 21, 1993.
