Series Description

Ironically, Americans tend to complicate their lives in an effort to simplify them. In SIMPLY MING, chef Ming Tsai helps make the yearning for a more manageable lifestyle a reality. Tsai, experienced in classical French, new American and Pan-Asian cuisine, first introduced viewers to his unique blend of global culinary traditions in his Food Network series, East Meets West With Ming Tsai. In this new series for public television, Tsai provides a repertoire of very simple recipes which viewers can integrate into numerous dishes. Each of his flavor-packed sauces, salsas, pastes, rubs, stocks, syrups and doughs consists of fewer than seven ingredients, and each requires no more than 20 minutes to prepare. Guest include Martin Yan, Todd English, Jody Adams, Gordon Hamersley, Jasper White and others. 2004. Series release date: 2004

Program Description

SIMPLY MING is back for its ninth season featuring 26 fresh new episodes. This year, Ming and his guest chefs will be "Cooking on the Fly" finding inspiration from his East-West pantry and surprise ingredients. In each studio episode, Ming kicks off the show by highlighting techniques to help you "Cook on the Fly" at home. "This year I want to bring you into the mind of the chef; we went into the studio and on the road with no recipes, no thought of what we would be making - using our pantry or favorite market as inspiration." says Ming. “We want to show you how you can shop in your own pantry and create delicious dinners on the fly." For half of the season, Ming is on the road visiting some of his favorite chefs and places in San Francisco, Napa Valley and the latest culinary hotspot, Singapore. Ming gets privileged access to some of his favorite restaurants seeking inspiration from his guest chef's favorite markets and pantries.

NOTE: Broadcast in Boston one week later than system airdate.
