Program Description

Feeling ill at work? It could be that the building is to blame. When Sick Building Syndrome strikes, it brings with it a range of symptoms such as headache, tiredness, sore eyes and runny nose. NOVA follows the investigation of several sick buildings -- Norfolk House in England, the Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington, DC and the Registry of Motor Vehicle Bureau in Boston, Massachusetts. Investigators do not believe the syndrome is a serious illness, but they are stumped to find its cause. Could it be dust or molds in the ventilation system? Too few negative ions in the air? A build-up of toxic chemicals? By carefully piecing together the puzzle, investigators track down the culprits.
