This documentary looks at the life, tragedies and triumphs of Marie Balter, a former patient at Danvers State Hospital for 20 years. Balter, a Harvard- educated consultant for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, overcame one challenge after another to become an outspoken advocate for the mentally ill. This documentary traces Balter's life from her Gloucester childhood through her institutionalization to her current missions to Bosnia Herzegovina.
