- Program Description
Derived from a Russian folk tale, this film is an ambitious effort in animation. A greedy Czar offers his daughter's hand to the first man who can bring him a flying ship. Pyotr, a kind-hearted peasant boy, sets out to find his two older brothers, who went in search of the miraculous gift. Stopping to rest, Pyotr shares his good with a mysterious old man and is rewarded for his kindness with a wondrous swan-shaped flying ship. On his journey to deliver the ship to the Czar, Pyotr is joined by a band of delightfully eccentric characters, each blessed with a peculiar talent In part 2, Pyotr and his new friends are imprisoned in the palace and must perform three "impossible" tasks or die. With the aid of their magical powers, the travelers outwit the czar, Pyotr weds the czar's daughter and they all live together happily in the palace.
