Note to You, A; William Grant Still

02/07/1999

As an Afro-American composer of the 1930’s and ‘40’s, Still led a double life. He studied with all the right teachers, at all the right universities and he wrote traditional classical music. But on the other hand, he was one of the most popular arrangers for artists like Paul Whiteman and Tommy Dorsey. Host Virginia Eskin visits with Still scholar Catherine Smith today on ANTY.
