He wrote colorful compositions that did honor to the music of the past, but people still thought of him as an ultra-modernist. In social circles, he was though of as a true gentleman, but he never married. He lived alone. Here is what he had to say about “Bolero:” “I have written only one masterpiece and that is Bolero. Unfortunately it contains no music.” Well, Virginia Eskin begs to differ! She brings us the masterfull music of Ravel this week on ANTY.
