After capturing Major Heyward, the Munro daughters and David Gamut, Magua makes his intentions known to Cora and tells her of the price her father must pay. Cora, Alice and Heyward are bound, the wounded David is left free. Heyward demands to know where the Hurons are taking them but learns only that Lt. Grant and his patrol have been killed. He suggests that Magua would have more to gain by returning the Munro girls to their father. General Webb orders troops from Fort Edward to search for Colonel Munro's missing daughters. They locate the empty cave and a woman's handkerchief. Magua and his prisoners stop for the night and he demands to speak alone to Cora. When the Europeans first came, Magua tells Cora, they taught him to drink "firewater." Because of this, he was banished from his own tribe and joined the English. His commander, Colonel Munro, ruled that any Indian caught drinking "firewater" would be flogged. Magua shows Cora the scars from such a flogging. He tells her that while he is reconciled with his people, the Hurons, he has no wife. He will release the others if she agrees to stay with him. Cora refuses and she, Alice and Heyward are bound to trees and tortured. David is allowed to remain free. David begins to sing and carefully removes the powder from the Hurons' rifles. Heyward breaks free and fights one of the braves. Led by the sound, Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas come to their rescue. That night as Hawkeye and his party sleep in an Indian burial ground, a Huron patrol approaches. Source: Internet Movie Database and WGBH archived promotional material.
