Description from WGBH press release of the day: “ Welcome to the Lighthouse Ranch commune, in northern California – a place of ‘spiritual outreach’ – a Christian commune where 120 young people live and work. They’ve got five acres of farmland, an assortment of farm animals and some ingenious ways of supporting themselves. There’s an advertising shopper called the Tricity Advertiser, a donut shop that also sells door-to-door, and the ‘belt ministry’ which makes belts on the ranch and wholesales them all over the country. In Lighthouse in Loleta you get a real feeling for their daily life – their eating together, praying together, singing together – as well as an understanding of what brought various members of the commune there, and what their experiences have been. You’re closest to Sarah, a young woman who describes – radiantly, articulately, beautifully – what’s happened to her since she came to the commune. You see a growing closeness between Nancy and David, two young members who fall in love, and producer Philip Garvin was lucky enough to get their beautiful, tender, marriage announcement on film.”
Filmed at the Lighthouse Ranch Commune in Loleta, a town on the northern coast of California.
