- Program Description
From the October 1968 WGBH Program guide: “ A gifted young composer and Yale undergraduate, Evans has been accused of creating ‘freaked out’ sound instead of music. He answers this charge in a spirited session with his contemporaries- all members of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra - when Channel 2 presents a portrait of Humphrey Evans this month. Evans is seen in rehearsal with Youth Symphony which is performing his ‘Vedic Pronouncements’ , and in a debate with the young musicians who are uncertain about the meaning of this new work. The 20-year-old composer tries to explain, and how well he succeeds is evident in the finished performance which follows.”
