Interview with Tran Thi Giai.
Interviewer:
Please go ahead.
Tran Thi Giai:
When they rounded us up they told us that if we went to the relocation camps they would feed us adequately...
Interviewer:
No, we want you to tell us from the very beginning. How the Americans took you away when they came, and so on.
Tran Thi Giai:
When the Americans came, they rounded us up and took us away by boat.
Interviewer:
Please tell us from the very beginning when the Americans came on their helicopters, rounded people up, herded them to the school and so on. Please tell us what happened during the day.
Tran Thi Giai:
After they landed... Well, they put off the decision to take us away for a couple of days. Then they herded us to the ferry landing and carried us away by boat.
Interviewer:
When the Americans came that morning, what did they do? Did they take you or force you to go somewhere?
Tran Thi Giai:
No, they could not force me to go anywhere at all because I had a very old mother at that time and I had to stay home to keep her company. My entire family, however, was taken to the school.
Interviewer:
But after that where did they take you?
Tran Thi Giai:
No, they did not take me anywhere at all. This was because I had an old mother to take care of at home.
Handclap on the end.
