Broadcast: Feb. 19-March 12, 1989. Christabel Bielenberg's autobiographical novel, "The Past is Myself" tells of her marriage to a German during the turbulent years leading up to and including the Second World War. Christabel makes her home in Germany with husband Peter. They are both alarmed by the rise of Hitler. Peter is a lawyer who feels they must remain to try to ensure that there is a sane element in place to help the country recover from the madness of Nazism. He enters the government and becomes involved in an attempt to assassinate Hitler.
