Program Description

Rick Atkinson moves from Scotland to Alaska in the summer of 1984 to prepare for and compete in the 1,000-mile Yukon Quest dog sled race from Whitehorse, Canada to Fairbanks, Alaska. The grueling 10-day race, marked with just seven mandatory rest stops/check points, offers a $40,000 first prize that would enable Atkinson and his wife Carol to settle permanently in the North Country.
