Beacon Hill Crash Course
Program Description

Unit One Productions program hosted by Nick French. Program examines current (1969) fiscal and organizational challenges facing the Massachusetts Statehouse and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Specific issues of: welfare; governmental reorganization; auto insurance; the cutback in house membership; and taxes, are examined in panel discussions featuring political officials from around the state. Welfare: Edgar Mills of the Christian Science Monitor moderates discussion between Sen. Beryl Cohen, Democrat from Brookline and Rep. Joseph Brett, Democrat of Quincy. Restructuring of state government: Edgar Mills moderates discussion between Dr. Robert Marsden of the State Planning Office and Sen. Kevin Harrington, Democrat from Salem. Cutbacks to house membership: Edgar Mills moderates discussion between Rep. Mary Newman, Republican of Cambridge and Robert Quinn, House Speaker, Democrat of Boston. Auto insurance: Edgar Mills moderates discussion between Rep. Michael Dukakis, Democrat of Brookline and Professor David Sargent of Suffolk University.
