Program Description

Sex, violence, death - they’re natural attractions for the artist. When art deals with such subjects, it sometimes runs afoul of public sensibilities. And over the years, some these treatments are even vieweed with reverence. Open Secrets is all about the Naked Maja, the lush eroticism of Indian temple art, the Rape of the Sabine Women, Greek erotic art, paintings of execution and dying, and the cold elegence of Aubrey Beardsley’s drawings.
