Richard has two admirers. One is a foreign adventuress who, pretending to be an old friend of Marjorie’s -- and suffering under the illusion that he is wealthy--pursues him with matrimony in mind. The other is a new underhouse parlor maid, who pursues him in quite a different way and with quite different illusions.
