- Series Description
The mission of THE HEALTH QUARTERLY is to examine the social, political and personal impact of the changes in America's health care system, and to provide a forum for debates and exploration those health care issues. In the first program, the alarming crisis of the uninsured is faced, spotlighting 3 companies and 3 families from opposite ends of the spectrum - the problems, the failed solutions, and prospects for the future. The program concludes with an update on what is still the major health crisis facing the world today, AIDS, and discrimination against AIDS patients. Hosted by Peter Jennings. Series release date: 1991
- Program Description
Health care in America is controlled by five competing interests: doctors, lawyers, drug companies, insurance companies, and consumers. But once every four years the consumers - the voters - get to call the shots. How will they use this power this year? This program goes to the campaign advisors to learn what they think. The second segment presents an important update on DES-related cancer. (DES is a synthetic hormone - invented in 1939 to prevent miscarriages - taken by approximately five million women in the 1950s and 1960s which was later linked to reproductive problems and rare cancers in the daughters of women who took it.) The AIDS report looks at the affect of the epidemic on dating, including the most recent scientific information on kissing. Hosted by Roger Mudd.
