Program Description

WGBH and ABC join forces to sound an alarm about AIDS among adolescents, as reported cases jump by 40% in 1989, 34% in 1990. One hour drama, to air first on PBS in prime time Sept. 18, 1991and the next day as an ABC Afterschool Special. Stars Harvey Fierstein. Filmed in Boston June 1991. Targets teens, parents, teachers and health professionals with message of prevention; show explores the lives of teenagers who have contracted the AIDS virus and those who suspect that they may have been exposed to HIV through various high-risk behaviors such as unprotected sex, IV drug use and injecting steroids. Companion educational materials to be distributed nationally.
