- Program Description
“One of the decisive events of our time was the rupture in the alliance between Soviet Russia and Red China. By 1949 these two among the most populous nations of the world stood together in a firm Communist alliance and it seemed as if the future, certainly of Asia, belonged to them. Yet by 1958 -59, there were recriminations, at first with symbolic names and indirect targets, but a few years later the break was openly revealed, in language more abusive than was used in attacking the long standing enemies of the West. A new balance of power had been created in Asia and the Pacific as yesterday’s allies became the most bitter antagonists.”
