- Program Description
Rosa Santiago, a working class single mother of four is in the last planning days of her oldest daughter Vanessa’s Quinceañera. The Quinceañera is not a simple party. It is a coming of age ceremony celebrated on a Latina girl’s fifteenth birthday. Modern festivities require toasts, blessings, tiaras, gowns, limousines, top hats – all the trappings of a wedding. In the United States, Latino families of all economic classes are spending thousands of dollars to create an event that will honor their daughters and dazzle their communities. Despite the catastrophic financial pressure this event creates, Rosa, like so many other Latino parents, has decided that it is important enough to make the sacrifices. But two weeks before the big event, Rosa's plans unravel and she is unsure if she will be able to pull it off.
