- Program Description
Steven Pern sets out on a five-month journey. His aim is to walk the entire length of Japan, its volcanic spine and watershed -- more than 2,000 miles of mostly mountainous landscape rising to over 12,000 feet. This is an epic journey across mountainous ridges above the snow line, through bleak volcanic treeless wastes and dense forests inhabited by deer and bear, interspersed with "black country," the lonely traditional villages untouched by the modern world.
