Series Description

HUB CITY AT ITS BEST. A LOOK AT EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY INTERESTING IN BOSTON. HOSTED BY EMILY ROONEY. Series release date: 1/1997

Program Description

Deep Impact Early yesterday morning, NASA's "Deep Impact" impactor spacecraft crashed into comet Tempel 1, producing a sizable crater and sending dust and debris thousands of miles into space. Scientists are hoping this debris will show them what's inside the comet, and reveal information about the creation of the universe some 4.5 million years ago. Guests: Kelly Beatty, Executive editor, Sky & Telescope; Mark Gurwell, Harvard-Smithsonian Center

Pring-Wilson Juror 3 jurors from Alexander Pring-Wilson's Oct. trial sent a letter to the Globe last week, criticizing decision to give him a retrial. Jurors criticized Judge Regina Quinlan for vacating Pring-Wilson's manslaughter conviction following a March SJC ruling. SJC's ruling now allows judges to decide if a jury should hear about a victim's prior violent history in self-defense cases. Quinlan reasoned that Pring-Wilson, who has yet to exhaust his appeals, should have the benefit of the new law. 3 jurors disagree, saying that new evidence wouldn't change their minds and that it would inject race and class into case. Pring-Wilson's attorneys allege that victim, 18-year-old Michael Colono, had an extensive history of violence. On Friday, Pring-Wilson posted $400K bail, but remains under house arrest at an undisclosed location in Massachusetts. Guests: Ceasar McDowell, Pring-Wilson trial juror

New Globe Ombudsman Richard Chacon is the 8th ombudsman at the Boston Globe. He started on July 27th. Chacon will write a column every other week for the op-ed page. Guests: Richard Chacon, Ombudsman, The Boston Globe
