- Program Description
Roger Swain witnesses the first blooms of crocus and narcissus. Narcissus ‘Dutch Master' is in one pot, in another is iris ‘George,' narcissus ‘Rijnveld's Early Sensation' and tulipa ‘Happy Family.' In the greenhouse, he sows marigolds ‘Inca Gold' (an annual) in a soil-less mix. Afterwards, he sets them in a pan to soak up moisture.
Holly Shimizu is in Eleuthera, Bahamas, touring the organic vegetable gardens of Karin and Ian Goodfellow. The soil is amended by leaf mulch and 30 year-old cow manure. Their organic vegetables are sold to a private resort; they also sell an assortment of jams, jellies and sauces made from their produce.
Chef Marian is with chef Patrick Tully; he grilles native lobster.
Roger closes in the shrub garden with an early blooming Galanthus nivalis ‘Snow Drop' (plant- of-the-week).
