Latin Music USA is a film about American music. Fusions of Latin sounds with jazz, rock, country, rhythm and blues - music with deeper roots and broader reach than most people realize. It's a fresh take on our musical history, reaching across five decades and across musical genres to portray the rich mix of sounds created by Latinos and embraced by all.
From Latin jazz and mambo to salsa, Tejano, Chicano rock, Latin pop and reggaeton, LATIN MUSIC USA tells the story of the rise of new American music forged from powerful Latin roots and reveals the often overlooked influence of Latin music on jazz, hip hop, rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll — and on all of American culture. It’s a fresh take on America's musical history, reaching across time and across musical genres to embrace the exciting hybrid sounds created by Latinos, musical fusions that have deeply enriched popular music in the U.S. over more than five decades. The programs cover bridges, domes, skyscrapers, dams, and tunnels -- past and present. Along the way, Macaulay highlights the engineering principles and human stories behind some of the most remarkable achievements in the history of building. 101 Bridges- Program highlights: the Brooklyn Bridge, San Francisco's Golden Gate, Tacoma Narrows, Japan's Akashi-Kaikyo, Gustave Eiffel's Garabit Bridge, Scotland's Firth of Forth Railway Bridge. 102 Domes- Program highlights: the Pantheon, Hagia Sophia, Saint Peter's Cathedral, US Capitol Building, Houston Astrodome, Buckminster Fuller and the geodesic dome, the Georgia Dome. 103 Skyscrapers- Program highlights: the Chrysler Building, Reims Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, New York City's Citigroup Center, Malaysia's Petronas Towers. 104 Dams- Program highlights: Egypt's ancient Sadd El Kafara, Aswan High Dam, Hoover Dam, Brazil and Paraguay's shared Itaipu Dam, Brazil's Ita Dam, Johnstown, Pennsylvania's South Fork Dam. 105 Tunnels- Program highlights: Boston's Big Dig, Rome's Cloaca Maxima, Hoosac Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, London's Thames Tunnel, the Chunnel.
