Program Description

This dramatization of Catherine Cookson's novel follows the fortunes of three different families, linked by the strong-minded Agnes Conway (Claire Skinner). An encounter with a glamorous young couple one Christmas Eve launches Agnes' involvement with the wealthy Farrier family. Meanwhile, she becomes entangled with the notorious Dock fighters, the Fentons, as she goes to the aid of her younger sister. When World War I breaks out, life for Agnes and those she cares for will never be the same again.
