- Program Description
In a country still struggling to overcome a painful history of racial division, Barack Obama, who became a US senator in 2004, has emerged as a unifier, attempting to bring all Americans together under a campaign of change and hope.
"Obviously, race is crucial to his campaign," says Terence Samuel, senior correspondent for The American Prospect, a liberal magazine based in Washington, D.C. "But he's not talking about race, which is this amazingly transcendent notion that you can be something without harping on it. And it appears to be working so far."
In this episode of Basic Black, Samuel joins host Kim McLarin in a discussion on the race to the White House. What are the predicted trends in black voting after Obama's victory in Iowa? And is America ready for a black president?
