Program premiered in 1971 with The First Churchills. Hosted by Alastair Cooke. Intended as a showcase for the best of British television drama. Spawned MYSTERY! in 1980. Broadcast: Jan. 11 - April 5, 1981 Series Description: Series based on the exploits of an Army bomb disposal unit during World War II in London. Series shows the extraordinary pressures on the men who tackled one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs - defusing unexploded bombs that rained on England during the Blitz. Series follows one bomb disposal company based in Southeast London from September 1940 to spiring of 1944. Brian Ash, leader of the unit falls in love with Susan, the daughter of a British scientist who is working on safer de-activating techniques.
