Program premiered in 1971 with The First Churchills. Hosted by Alastair Cooke. Intended as a showcase for the best of British television drama. Spawned MYSTERY! in 1980. In 1924, Sydney Cockerell - then director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge - introduced 68 year-old George Bernard Shaw to the Benedictine nun Dame Laurentia McLachlan. The three enjoyed a lively friendship for over 25 years with vigorous discussions covering everything from the existence and nature of God to some of the finer points of tango dancing. Based on the stage play by Hugh Whitemore.
