Elizabeth falls in love with a poet. The poet, on the other hand, falls in love with the Bellamys' status and money. While Elizabeth dreams of living in sin with her poet, he dreams of living on his bride's dowry. James, too, is suffering from misplaced love--for Sarah, who is now a music-hall singer
