- Program Description
TB Scare Nearly two thousand people at four local hospitals may have been exposed to a female resident who was infected with TB. Patients and staff from the West Roxbury VA Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Cape Cod Hospital and Brockton Hospital are all being urged to get tested. Guests: Dr. John Rich, Boston Health Commission
Foster Care DSS is looking to revamping policies in an effort to keep more teenage kids in foster care and off the streets. Statistics show that half of all 18 year olds who age out of foster care end up homeless or in prison within 3 years. Once foster children turn 18, most are no longer eligible for DSS services, including health insurance. Comm. Harry Spence says reforms, which will be phased in gradually, will focus on strengthening family bonds. DSS believes that when foster children turn 18, having a family support structure much better eases their transition. Dept. still grappling with Dontell Jeffers case, which is now reportedly subject of a Suffolk grand jury investigation. The 4-year-old child died in March after an apparent beating, just two weeks after DSS placed him in foster care. Guests: Harry Spence, DSS Commissioner
