This series spans the history of the Korean War with a look at its origins and legacies. The programs combine archival material with the testimony of key eyewitnesses and present new evidence regarding the controversial aspects of the war. The story of a "police action" that grew into a multinational war claiming 34,000 US casualties - in the first and only confrontation between forces of the United Nations and the Communist bloc. - Program Description
In Dec. 1950, the United Nations forces were in deep trouble, retreating south from the Yalu River following China's entry into the war. This program begins with the retreat of the Eighth Army from frozen Chosin and covers the next six months of the war - including the sacking of General MacArthur. It concludes in May 1951, the end of the second Communist offensive--and the end of any real hopes of Korean reunification.
