Program Description

When the 99th congress adjourned in Oct. 1986, Thomas P. O'Neill concluded a 34-year career on Capitol Hill and stepped down as speaker of the House of Representatives. This special consists of two elements: excerpts from the widely-acclaimed documentary "Mr. Speaker: A Portrait of Tip O'Neill" (Produced 1978 by WGBH) and an interview with O'Neill and Joe Day, a veteran Boston print and broadcast journalist. NOTE: For JAN94 broadcast, the program will be repackaged with a font acknowledging Tip O'Neill's death.
