Program premiered in 1971 with The First Churchills. Hosted by Alastair Cooke. Intended as a showcase for the best of British television drama. Spawned MYSTERY! in 1980. Program Description

Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean) discovers that he is now a father and is desperate to rescue his new family from a siege at Badajoz before his enemies find them first. Sharpe's resolve is sorely tested with the return of Obadiah Hakeswill (Pete Postlethwaite), a villain from Sharpe's past. Sharpe's Spanish lover, Teresa (Assumpta Serna), has left their daughter Antonia with her family in Badajoz while she fights the French.
