Program Description

This four-hour miniseries explores the life of one of the most extraordinary politicians in modern American history. From his early years in Texas politics to his attainment of presidential power, this program documents the rise and fall of Lyndon Baines Johnson - FDR's favorite Congressman; champion of rural development for his Texas constituents; commanding Senate Majority Leader; frustrated vice president; civil rights champion as our 36th President; felled by discord fueled by entanglement in Vietnam. Candid remembrances by those who knew him best include his wife Lady Bird, George Ball, Clark Clifford, John Connally, Daniel Ellsberg, Doris Kearns Goodwin, J. William Fulbright, Roger Wilkins, and Dean Rusk.
