Gardening program hosted by Jim Wilson and joined by Bob Smaus, Roger Swain, Lucinda Mays and Peter Seabrook as international travel correspondent. Series chef is Marion Morash. Special correspondent is Holly Shimizu. The Boston-based Victory Garden (w/ Roger Swain) is located at a private residence; Victory Garden South is at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia; Victory Garden West is at Roger's Garden Center in Corona del Mar, California. Original program: Crockett's Victory Garden - premiered April 6, 1976. Hosted by Jim Crockett. Second host Bob Thomson (for 12 years till 1991). Series release date: 1976

Roger Swain opens at the suburban garden displaying fully blossomed phlox paniculata 'David' with its gorgeous white trusses. It is a phlox that is more resistant to to fungus.
Roger discusses chrysanthemums, a flower that blooms as the days get shorter. He displays 'Nicole' (pale yellow) and 'Ginger.'
Lucinda Mays visits Wilmette, Illinois, with landscape gardener Craig Bergmann to tour his gardens and greenhouse. Highlights:

Chef Marian prepares grilled eggplant for 'sandwiches:'
Slice 1 large eggplant into 3/4" slices; cover with salt and let sit in colander for 30 minutes to drain. Pat dry. Dip pieces into eggwash (2 eggs beaten with a bit of water). Dip into breadcrumbs. Grille 4 minutes. Turn pieces over and top with slice of cheddar cheese & sliced tomato. Cover grille and serve open-faced.
