- Program Description
When the BBC released the story of five siblings from an impoverished family in Turkey who habitually walk on all fours, it created a worldwide media sensation. But what is the evolutionary signficance of such a discovery? Is the family some kind of genetic throwback to our earliest ancestors who had not yet evolved to become bipedal? Or are the Turkish siblings merely the product of tragic mental retardation and further impeded by social circumstances? NOVA's program tells the family's extraordinary story while exploring the scientific implications of their strange impairment, which turns out to be more intriguing and subtle than any of the sensational newspaper headlines have suggested.
