Program Description

In “Set of Coincidence” Peter Campus’ image overlaps itself continually in a variety of settings. In a minimally furnished living room, one Campus figure is seated and watching television with his back to the audience, when another strides into the room facing the audience and overlapping with the original Campus. Both figures move about the room, coming into close “contact” with one another and playing with notions of scale and perspective. With looped footage of a moving tunnel as a backdrop, three Campus figures slowly walk toward the camera, peering out from behind one another. In the final vignette, set against a backdrop of static, Campus’ head and shoulders seem to float and twirl through space. A smaller figure carved into the static overlaps this original image, coming into focus when it does so. As the static figure grows in size, it eventually eliminates the original image, leaving only a static field. The work is approximately 14 minutes in length.
