- Program Description
This program profiles Knute Rockne, the man whose death in a plane crash in 1931, at the age of 43, was described by the president of the United States as "a national loss." Football coach at the University of Notre Dame, Rockne galvanized attention to his "Fighting Irish" and became a pivotal figure in the rise of football. The film uses the life and death of one man to explore the mythology of sports in American life.
