He suffers from AZOOR, a virus that attacks the cornea and causes an intermittent loss of vision, as well as disturbing hallucinations. Claire Skinner co-stars as Detective Inspector Catherine Tully, a competitive graduate officer who is drafted into Tanner's Serious Crime Unit to help investigate the apparently motiveless brutal murder of a 19-year-old boy. The two form an uneasy alliance.
