Program Description

The show opens with Roger Swain talking about the winter rye, planted over exposed beds, to contain the soil during the winter months. The Victory Garden’s correspondent Bob Smaus travels to Portland, Oregon this week to visit the private garden of Craig Quirk and Larry Neill. Highlights of this extraordinary garden visit include how to use distinctive colors in the forefront of your garden bed to provide year round color and bloom, and how creative garden containers can divide a small space effectively. Back at the Victory Garden, Adrian Bloom and Roger take a look at the perennial and connifer beds planted 2 years ago to see how it has grown and changed. Roger Swain goes on to talk about conifer nurseries, how and why to repot small trees and mulching them over for the winter. To conclude the show, chef Marian makes delicious hash browns in the kitchen.
