- Series Description
Buster, one of the most popular characters on ARTHUR will accompany his airline pilot father as he flies the fictional Latin rock group Los Viajeros on a concert tour of the United States, with forays into Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Buster will stay in touch with his friends back home via a small, hand-held digital video camera. These first-person video "postcards" will be in the form of live-action, P.O.V.-style footage of the places visited in the show. Narrated by Buster, they are woven seamlessly into each animated story. "It's important for children to experience cultures different from their own," says WGBH executive producer Carol Greenwald. "Putting Buster on the road and immersing him in real-life settings via the live-action 'postcards' is a perfect vehicle to teach children about the rich and complex cultural life that exists across America." Series release date: 2004
- Program Description
Buster has always had an interest - okay, an obsession - with space aliens. So where better to visit than Roswell, home of the "unexplained lights"? But when Buster sees what he thinks he sees, will anybody believe him?
Buster's obsession with space aliens reaches new heights in Roswell, where UFO fans from all over the country come to the annual Alien Days Festival. During a car ride with his incredulous dad, Buster swears he's seen an alien crash landing. With the help of local kids, Buster sets out to find the truth.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: Children will gain some understanding of daily life and popular culture in Roswell, New Mexico as well as the geology and ecology of Carlsbad Caverns. They will observe similarities and differences between their own experiences and beliefs and those of the New Mexican children and families in this episode. For children who are in the process of learning English, this episode models ways to express amazement and to ask questions to learn more about another person's life. It also builds children's familiarity with vocabulary related to nature, geography, and UFOs.
