- Program Description
This filmed adaptation of Arthur Miller's critically acclaimed stage play, starring Mandy Patinkin Elizabeth McGovern, Henry Goodman, Margo Leicester and Ed Bishop, is set in Brooklyn in November 1938. In the aftermath of Kristallnacht in Germany -- when thousands of Jewish shops were looted, synagogues razed and uncounted numbers of Jews killed -- a middle-aged Jewish-American housewife suddenly finds herself unable to use her legs. A doctor concludes that she is suffering a hysterical response to the newspaper reports of Jews who were humiliated into scrubbing sidewalks with tooth- brushes after the Kristallnacht devastation.
